Who Am I?
I am a portrait, street and documentary photographer and writer.
I have dabbled in many things along my path. I worked for sixteen years during which I acquired an MA in Criminology and a PhD entitled Suicide In Prison. I published academic papers, established myself as a specialist in qualitative research. It was here I really understood my love for exploring peoples stories.
I was made redundant in 2009 I took the opportunity to explore other avenues and do something less emotionally intense, although it might be argued that photography is just as emotionally intense!
I then embarked on a new journey through food writing, blogging and running a little underground restaurant in my home. I competed an MA in Creative Writing and focused my attention on setting up a catering business, which I established in 2011. In 2010 I was head hunted for Britain’s Best Dish and won for Wales making it to the quarter finals, and a finalist in the Network She women in business awards. My supper club was listed in the Sunday Times, The Observer and Elle magazine as one of the top five in the UK.
Throughout all of this, well since I was 11 really, I have taken photographs. Firstly on film and then with a small point and shoot camera. In 2009 alongside my food blog I began to take photographs more seriously, as part of my own collection and as part of my food business.
Last year I embarked on a professional photography course to improve my skills this year I established DLB Photography, my part-time photography business.
